Lucas won a goldfish at a pumpkin patch in October playing a ping pong ball toss game.
I know, right? No one ever wins those games!
Well, my son not only won one, he won one for his friend too.
That fish died within hours.
Ours did not.
Lucas named his new pet Chocolate.
This is a miracle fish.
After living in a circular vase for a couple of weeks, we had scare. Chocolate was on his side and very still, floated to the top of the water and then down to the bottom. We prepared Lucas for the inevitable.
We were all surprised when Chocolate survived the night. He was soon moved to a proper fish tank with a filter and now his water is changed regularly, he is fed every two to three days and his water is conditioned.
This is a miracle fish.
Lucas was his Kindergarten class Star of the Week last week and Friday was his big Family Share Day and instead of wanting to bring Charlie Pasta or his adorable little sister or even his mom, he decided he wanted to introduce his class to Chocolate.
Can you say ‘logistical nightmare’? How does one transport a fish to and from school?
The answer?
Very carefully.
I think we all know who the real star of the week this week was!
I am happy to report that although traumatized, Chocolate made it to and from school and is alive and well.
Whew!

Ha! We had to “fish sit” for some friends while they were out of town, and they made it clear that if the fish didn’t survive, that was okay with them. My girls were obsessed with it and now keep asking if we can get one.
Tonya says
Don’t do it! I repeat, don’t do it!!

You are SUCH a good mom!!! ;D Seriously, miracle fish. I won one at a church festival once and it lasted about 48 hrs…
Tonya says
Thanks! Anything to make my boy happy. Sigh!
Laura says
Bahaha! We had a fish named Milo before actually having kids. We went away for, like, two weeks and got an automatic fish feeding thingy to put food in the water. Oh my GOODNESS, did our apartment ever stink when we got home. Never! Again!
Tonya says
They seems like easy pets, but there really is a lot of work involved. Ugh… that smell. SO gross.
Alison says
Oh my goodness Tonya, I laughed out loud 🙂
You’re awesome.
Tonya says
It was certainly a lot funnier AFTER the fact. (:
Leah says
So, how long have you had that fish now? I can’t believe that he did end up taking him to school! Too funny! I wonder why does he like fish so much?? He always goes for those first in pet stores too.
Tonya says
He won him in mid-October, so… five months and he didn’t take him anywhere, I did!! At his insistence. What a pain-in-the-butt!
