Time may change me
But I can’t trace time
– David Bowie, Changes
I’ve never been very comfortable with change. Change is scary and I tend to like things just the way they are, but change is also exciting and usually means something wild or wonderful is about to happen.
Change comes in many forms; there are big life changes: losing a loved one, getting married, having a baby, adding a pet to your family, moving to a new city or quitting your job to start your own business.
Physical changes: losing or gaining weight, discovering another laugh line on your face or dyeing your blond hair red.
There are soulful changes, too like altering the way you think about things, changing your mind, attitude or perspective. These are typically tougher changes but usually the best kind.
Whatever the change, no matter how uncomfortable it makes me, in my experience change is almost always a good thing and hard as I may try, often unavoidable.
Here’s a list of some changes I am always okay with:
- sheets
- channels
- toner cartridges
- water in the fish tank
- oil in the car
- light bulbs
- batteries
- lanes
- directions
- diapers
This post was inspired by Stasha’s Monday Listicles, a linky right up my alley! This week’s topic: Changes was chosen by MannahattaMamma.
I don’t mind change, but my husband hates it 🙂 Though I think he would agree with your list (well, he is ok with ME changing diapers, the slacker). I’ll have to bring these things up to him when he’s talking about how change stresses him out.
My list of 10 changes are the easy stuff. It’s the stuff above the list that truly suck.
I know 🙂 Sometimes, with Ryan, it’s the idea of the change that’s harder than the consequences of the change, so I try to keep that in mind.
You didn’t strike me as a fish person. Really? If you have birds, I’m not sure we can be friends.
We got Lucas a 10 gallon fish tank for his birthday. We started with three fish. We are down to one.
Hell to the no on birds! Ew.
I am laughing out loud at your comment, Poppy!
Oh I love this. You started of so serious and had me nod after every sentence. Then I read your list. I am stil nodding in approval on all ten. But I am also laughing. And I needed it tonight of all night.
Perfect list Tonya.
Thanks, Stasha! I had fun with it.
Stasha said exactly what was in my mind! I was leaning forward, hanging on to every serious word you said and then fell back in my chair laughing when I read you list! I think you just changed me, my emotional state in one flip of the coin 🙂
I think for me the spiritual/soulful change is the hardest one, longest one to finally happen, but also the most rewarding, powerful one as well!
Glad I could help… sometimes a new perspective is all you need.
He hee, you started off so seriously and then your list ended up making me laugh.
Change is hard no matter what but, most of the time, it’s needed and the outcome is positive:)
Was it the diapers? 🙂
Are you really ok with changing sheets b/c if you are, come on over to my house! I’m not. I hate it. (-:
I didn’t say I was okay with changing sheets, I just like new fresh sheets!
Haha, love your list here Tonya – the most lighthearted one so far from the few I’ve read. 🙂
Thanks so much! Change doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
I think the best part of your post is the mention that chnage is good–even when the change itself really sucks, like losing a job, the exciting part comes soon after when you realize “Oh my God, if I play my cards right, I can do anything I want!”
Exactly!! You get it. Change can be good.
A great list, Tonya! I have to ask you if you’d like to come over and change my sheets because I hate it 🙂
I’m not a fan of the act of changing sheets, but I love slipping into them.
Great list. I’m cool with all these changes too..especially the sheets!
Thanks so much. 🙂
I don’t like changes at all either. But this is a list I can totally get behind! Love it!
Glad you liked it!
I can handle all of these changes too, except diapers. I would prefer to skip this one if I could.
Yeah, batteries, lane changes are easy. Diapers… often gross.
Change is good and bad! I embrace it sometimes, but with a little apprehension. But I’m almost always glad it happened.
I confess once I have changed lanes I think the other one starts to move faster.
That my friend is called Murphy’s Law and it happens to me too.
Hee! I’m with you friend- change is good in the scariest possible way!
Like I said, change is *almost* always good. 🙂
Change can kiss my ass, really and truly.I hate it. We just had an announcement at work that might lead to some pretty substantial (but probably good) changes and I about threw up my breakfast..and definitely cried in my cubicle..and then the words “please put some skittles in your mouth right now so you won’t be sad anymore” might have been said to me.
I’m Ok with most of these changes — except oil, because that usually means $$ being spent 😉
Yes, why is it that having the oil changed in your car always seems to lead to other crap your car needs? Grrr.
Great list! Thanks for reminding me to change the sheets…It’s been a while.
Yeah, it’s one of my least favorite chores too.
I too have to agree with Stasha. So quickly I was entraced with the seriousness of your post, and then – bam!- you changed it and left me smiling!
I like being able to do that. 🙂
The older I am getting, the more I like a change, just for the sake of having one. Loved your list!!! Hoping all your changes are GOOD ones.
Thank you and likewise. xo
I am okay with change…BUT I really hate to change the sheets!
I do too! So very much.
As I’m sure you know, I’m a big fan of change. Its such a great way to get through a rough/sad/difficult time in your life. Cutting my hair was the best change ever for me!
Sheets! Yes! I’m certain that Oprah has her sheets changed at least daily. Can you imagine? I sleep so well on a crisp clean set of sheets. Ahhhh.
Great list Tonya.
I also hate changes, especially if I’m in my comfort zone. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But so long as I take the plunge, change can be good. Really, really good.
