These words make me cringe. They are negative, give me the creeps or just sound awful to my ears and therefore I avoid them at all costs!
1. mistake – This word always makes me think of a thick, juicy steak. Stupid, right? But why use ‘mistake’ when ‘boo-boo’ is so much more fun to say? Try it.
2. corny – You’ll never hear this word come out of my mouth. Ew.
3. moist – I think this is on everyone’s words to avoid list and if it isn’t, it should be. Double ew.
4. cheesy –See above. Although, if I can’t think of anything better, I’m WAY more likely to say ‘cheesy’ than ‘corny’.
5. mine & no – Living with a toddler, I hear both all day every day.
6. folks – ‘People’, ‘parents’, even ‘peeps’ all sound so much more… civilized.
7. cancer –I hate everything about this word and all the heartache it brings.
8. denied –What a dreadful, sad word, especially when read in red and in stamp form. 🙁
9. crappy –I can definitely be heard saying ‘crap’, but ‘crappy’ is not a word I enjoy.
10. pooped –As in being tired. Why not just say, “I’m tired.”?

I hate juicy!!!!

I hear you! No and Mine are so on top of my list of annoying. Kids will do that to you..
Love this one Tonya!

I'm such an offender on so many of these. Except moist. I hate that word. And pooped. I have 2 kids under 3. I touch enough of it every day that I don't need it to extend to other contexts.

Moist, ugh, I never really 'understood' the word until I became a mother, but now that I get it, that I have some type of moist substance on me (spit up, breastmilk, food, drool, etc) most days, I don't like it.
Alison@Mama Wants This says
I was going to include 'moist' in my list. Just typing it gives me shudders.
Haha, mine & no – the latter is on mine!

I hate :
preggo, hubby, 'rents, etc… the words in question aren't so long that they require shortening.
Amanda @ It's Blogworthy says
Yup moist is on my list of words….so gross. Also I dislike wad. Once I dated a guy who knew I hated these words and often said "moist wad" to piss me off.
mom2kiddos says
Oops, I use 'moist' when I refer to cakes. Now that you've mentioned it, it does sound kind of ew.

I could definitely live without the word cancer and the heartache it has caused me.
I do say crappy sometimes. I find it is better than the alternative word I would say.
Erin says
Ohhh hate cancer too! Will be thrilled when the tell me I am free of it!
But free, that's my favorite 4 letter F word! =)
Crystal says
Cancer is definately a word I could do without.
I remember the days of no and mine very clearly. Couldn't stand those words when Mini-Me was growing up!
Cam says
i'm with you on most – especially number 5!
Jen says
Great list of words to not like. I like your reasons for not liking them too. I'll admit, I use the word crap and crappy a lot, because I don't really like to swear and CRAP is often the first word out.
Kim @ Mamas Monologues says
I don't like the word moist. It gives me chills. And NOT in a good way! 😉
Katie Hurley, LCSW says
any word that causes so much heartache should just be eliminated.
I think I was over my dislike of moist until I read this!
How about raw? Yuck.
Devan @ Accustomed Chaos says
those are good bad words. i did a similar post a few weeks ago & we share some of the words 🙂

#5 would definitely be on my list too! I got a 6 and 2 years old. They totally overuse those words. LOL
beautifulspitup says
I agree 100% about the word cancer. That's one nasty word. I do however say crappy and pooped. I like crappy because it prevents me from saying other words in front of my son, and pooped because..well, I don't know why. Ha! Great list, lady!
MamaRobinJ says
I could live without some of those words too. But I do use a couple of them so shall try very hard not to say them around you at BlogHer 😉
jacqui says
I could live without most of these words too. I don't mind 'cheesy' though.
I really like your suggestion to substitute 'boo boo' for 'mistake'. When something bad happens, my sisters and I say 'boo'. So this would fit right in.

Dear lord you are funny lady! My Book Club hates tender, too.
Your last 2 made me laugh out loud! 🙂

Right there with you on moist and folks. We count how many times our priest says folks (hopefully not moist!) in his homily – it's usually more than 10. Funny in a not-so-funny way.
Cookie's Mom says
Moist – lol. There's a band with this name. You have to wonder, What were they thinking? Not a fan of the big-C word either!!!
Sherri says
Moist…yes, this one has to go.
I hate to admit that I do say "crappy", but use "crap" way more often!
Leah says
I despise all of those words too! Eww "moist"! Ugh!! I can't even say it! Now, what are your favorite words?
