10. Even though by virtue of the name alone, my gym is suppose to be open 24 hours a day, it turns out, it actually isn’t. Who knew?
9. The clocks on the walls are usually wrong, which just pisses me off.
8. There is no soap in the soap dispensers in the women’s locker room or at least never at the sink or shower I choose.
7. There is often a wait to use a machine and then once I get on one…
6. There is a 20 minute limit (when staff is trolling the floors).
5. The competition factor. The person on the machine next to me always seems to want to turn our workout into a race. I see you looking over at my incline level and raise yours.
4. Flying sweat. Bring a towel, people!
3. It’s hot, sticky and stinky. Especially on a Tuesday at 1:05 PM.
2. Loud talkers. I’ve had to practically blow out my eardrums by turning my iPod up so loud just to drown out the conversations going on around me. It’s not homecoming, it’s a gym! Exchange numbers and call each other later.
And the #1 reason I’d rather work out at home than go to the gym…
It is swarming with too many beautifully toned, physically fit bodies. I mean, really? Why are you here?
…I promise not to stray again anytime soon.

So true! Cringed at the flying sweat comment. Yuck. I actually started P90X a while back, the best workout I've ever done… need to get back into it.
Miley says
YES!! I would rather work out at home as well. Partly because I sweat profusely (like a man. Seriously. EW) and I don't want to sweat on someone else… or heaven forbid, someone see me sweat.
I'm supposed to be a lady, dammit.
Dominique @Dominique's Desk says
So cool to have a homegym.. I too don't fancy working out in a gym outside.
The Random Blogette says
I am jealous! I want a home gym like that too! I did just get the Biggest Loser Yoga workout. I am hoping that will help me out a bit. I hate working out at the gym.
Poppy says
Amen sister. I get more of a workout getting the kids ready to go to the gym than I actually did at the gym. I love working out at home too.
Jessica says
This is why I never go to the gym. That and I'm too lazy to leave the house. I need one of those workout machines.
Jessica says
Working out at home is so much easier … that is if I actually get up and do it! haha And its so gross how other people leave their sweat everywhere GROSS
Kimberly says
Gyms actually gross me out! I'd much prefer working out at home… That is, if I actually get up early enough to do it!
Alison@Mama Wants This says
I would love a home gym. Sigh. And all your reasons – yes, yes and yes. And it's a germ fest in there, isn't it? Worse than daycare.
Elena says
I agree – I do like to work out at home. Our elliptical is broken right now so I'm forced to the gym. I did join one of those all women gyms and I do have to say a little less competitive than my old, large one. I laughed at the soap dispenser – so very true!
tracy@sellabitmum says
I will not. can not. will never work out at a gym. It just isn't in me. Love this.
Teresa says
I've never been to the gym, and I won't now!!
I have a treadmill and some videos, that'll do. Nice setup!
Liz says
Those are pretty swanky digs for a home gym! And – yes – you are so right! By virtue of its name, it should be required to be open 24 hours a day.
kimberly says
I remember going to lay down on the rubber mats to do some crunches and I ended up lying in someone elses sweat…yes, I threw up in my mouth and yes I used a blow torch to rid my skin of someone elses sweat. Bleh
Miel et Lait says
If I had a home gym, I would work out daily.
MamaRobinJ says
Ugh! I'd stay far, far away. The other thing I hate is when someone sprays a machine and the spray hits me. Don't need that chemical crap in my face, thanks.
Leah says
WHile I agree home gyms are awesome, I still enjoy being around a group of people that are all there to get in shape and work hard for it. I also feel like it pushes me to work out harder and for longer even. I like when a great runners gets on a treadmill next to me-it pushes me to run faster and for longer. Having said all that, it would be nice to be able to jump on a treadmill at home late at night or something without having to go anywhere.
