I don’t cook.
Not even a little bit.
I burned rice the other night.
Who does that?!
Me apparently.
I make the same New Year’s resolution every year to make at least one dinner a month. So far so good….
Although, I think I owe my family four dinners.
I’ve said it before (here and here), if it weren’t for my husband I’d be living on cereal, turkey sandwiches, PB&Js, pasta, bag salad and cottage cheese. In other words, I can do kid food.
Sort of.
Lucas has been on a bit of a hunger strike lately and wanting only macaroni and cheese and cookies. Which honestly doesn’t sound too bad too me, however, in an effort to expand his (and my) horizons (and because my husband was out for dinner with a friend), I made him a turkey and cheese quesadilla last night, rolled it and cut it so that it resembled a pin wheel. The bite sized pieces were so adorable I should have taken a photo. I thought for sure I had a hit on my hands.
He took one bite, promptly spit it out and asked for cookies. When I said no and tried again and again and again, he ran down the hall to his bedroom slammed the door and had a fit.
And here I thought that was 15 year old girl behavior?
About 17 minutes later, in other words, the length of time it takes to make a box of Annie’s Homegrown mac & cheese, he returned to the kitchen, sat down and had three bowls!
Geez, so much for an adorable dinner, huh?
I did throw in peas.
What did I have for dinner you wonder? And a Coors Light.
What do you feed your picky eater?

Hee hee! Have you seen Jessica Seinfeld's recipe book "Deceptively Delicious"? Admittedly it takes some work at the beginning, but it totally works. I never tell anyone what I sneak in there, and they rarely notice anything is off.

Speaking as a mom who spent way too many meals battling my kids over food…don't worry about it. Don't lose sleep. It will pass. He may be picky for a few years. But it gets better.
don't waste precious energy with angst over meals…I promise you it is SO not worth it. 🙂

ps you should read my post over at truthful mommy's from Monday. It talks about this in a way. You were actually one of the people on my mind when I wrote it. 🙂

This is such a hot topic, isn't it? Why won't they eat?! I have no advice, just a note to say I hear you and adore those sugar snap peas! XO

Exactly What Gigi said. They're all picky to a degree. They outgrow it. I promise.
There were years I swear Drew lived on chicken nuggets, corn & fries.
Keep offering & trying, but don't stress too much.

That sounds like my kind of dinner! Anything with Coors Light! I had macaroni and cheese with a hot dog and Coors Light for dinner on Wednesday night. Very classy!
Paige could eat macaroni and cheese for dinner every night as well. It's either that or her dad's homemade fried chicken fingers. We are so healthy at my house. Ick!

My son lived on cereal bars for a few months.
Also, I've totally burned rice. But I made potato salad for the first time yesterday so there's hope!

I rarely cook too because I'm terrible at it. My little one has started not eating things because she says they are "nasty."
I'm surprised you only had 1 Coors Light for dinner.

I hope that my little guy doesn't pick up the picky trait … yet I have a feeling he is going to. Better start stalking up the bottles of wine for my dinner now 🙂

I think every child goes through that phase of only wanting to eat Mac n Cheese. Too bad you can't warn him now that in college it's all he'll eat so he shouldn't stock up on so much of it right now!

Whatever! He likes mac and cheese, so what? So do i! : ) haha! He gets his needed dose of calcium and dairy, vegetables when you throw in peas and more good stuff. Hey, as long as he is happy and eating, right? : )

Ha! Little buggers. I totally don't get why they won't eat. I've had a few of those ideas where I think he's going to love it and…nope. And yet I can make a spinach salad with quinoa and sausage and he'll eat that. Why? Because the thinks the sausage is hot dogs.
