Last week Lucas turned 21 months old, which means in just three short months he’ll be two years old. Crazy!!
The “Terrible Twos” for us began at around 18 months but they are getting progressively worse, if that is even possible.
Not unlike most toddlers, I’m sure, Lucas is a strong willed little boy and wants what he wants when he wants it. He is in constant motion as we shuffle from one activity to the next all. day. long. We color and paint and play with Play-Doh, line up toy cars, sing, dance, work on puzzles, visit parks, visit Daddy at work, match up stuffed animals, practice our letters, numbers, colors, etc., etc., etc. and then do it all over again.
It’s exhausting.
He’s exhausting.
I’m exhausted!
I knew this age wasn’t easy, but no one said it was going to be this hard.
Lucas still refuses to drink milk from a sippy cup so my plan of ditching the bottles went out the window (for now).
He’s making a mockery of potty training, so that too has been halted (for now).
Having been sick for the past month (a treat in and of itself) has kept him crib bound, so my desire to move him into a toddler or twin bed has also been delayed (for now).
With all the progression that has been put on hold lately, it is clear who has the upper hand in our house. We will try again soon…
On the other hand, Lucas is a sponge and repeats and remembers everything he hears. Someone is going to have to clean up her potty mouth ASAP!!
His vocabulary is flourishing, which I am so blessed for. I have spent a lot of time around other almost two year olds and they don’t have near the amount of words that Lucas does and I see the look on their mother’s faces when they hear he is often times younger than their children. I can’t even imagine not being able to communicate with my son and my heart goes out to those parents whose children have speech delay.
Lucas is also able to play quietly with his trains or cars, “read” books or run around the backyard without much interference and for this I am also grateful.
He’s 21 months old for now and as challenging and infuriating as he can be sometimes, I’m wishing there was a pause button.

My little one is 22 months and she wears me out every day (and night). I would agree that toddlers can be exhausting but watching them learn and grow is so fun. Hopefully he doesn't give up nap time soon.

A "pause" button would be great! Can you believe how much he's doing, and how he just looks like a boy now, not a baby? Wow! Such a cute picture of him.
And you have a potty mouth?! Tonya, I'm shocked…(ha ha)!
Enjoy him, and I'll bet he'll be potty trained, in a toddler bed, and drinking from a sippy in no time.

My youngest is the same age, as you know, and the terrible two's are in full force. He used to be my sweet easy going little guy and now things are changing. I agree with you though, as much as I look forward to him being a little bit easier I don't want to miss a single moment. Three more months until 2, I can hardly believe it.

Funny, I wanted a fast forward button at that age with both of my kids!
Don't stress about the bed (I say keep 'em contained as long as possible!) or the potty training. Most boys aren't ready for awhile after age 2! Mine was over 3!
It seems like you were just talking about him being 15 months old..and now? almost two? sigh. he's not even my kid and it feels like the time is flying.

I can't beleive he's almost 2. He is all boy and keeps you busy but what a joy! Lance and I were just talking last night about how MZK needs an off button. 😉
As for the bottle – MZK had his until he was 3.5 (only at night but still) and we didn't move him into a big boy bed until he was 2 and although we tried to pottytrain him at 2, he really didn't get it until he was 3 – it was like a light clicked on a few days before his birthday.
This line is hilarious by the way, "He's making a mockery of potty training".
Good luck!

Can you believe how fast time is flying!?! The kids are almost two…it's crazy!
I tried potty training Tater around the same age, and the same thing happened with him. We started again just after he was about 2 and a few months, and he was much more receptive.
I am SO NOT looking forward to potty training the twins…

There is no pause button! Blake just turned two last month and it's the same deal. Running non stop, getting into everything, repeating Mommy's favorite words (not a good thing…), etc.
I'm in the same boat as you right now. Not ready to get rid of the crib and not ready to potty train. It will come in time, I suppose.

My son will be 5 in July and he swears he runs this house. He still has his occasional tantrums & I often find myself saying "why, why, whyyyyy??!!" lol He is in preschool during the day but he comes home wired (I think they give him Red Bull right before he leaves), lol. On the bright side, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He will grow out of it. You just gotta laugh to prevent from losing your sanity =)

He sounds so much like my first! I didn't realize not every child talked like he did! Sawyer was out of his crib at 19 months to make room for his sister – and it was a few months before he realized he could actually get out of it himself! But potty training? Boys are notoriously later! 😉
So glad you're enjoying him so much!

I know exactly how that feels. Exhausting, yes. Wanting to preserve it, yes 🙂

Some things get easier and then others get harder. The constant change can be the best part about motherhood. It's also the worst. You're doing a great job! The bottles, potty training, and crib are just blips on the radar.

21 months?! Man, they are just flying by!! I really love that he talks so much and seems to understand even more. I can't wait to have whole conversations with about…hmmm..anything at all really. XOXO
