Instead of flipping stuff off today, which I enjoy doing oh so much, I thought I would switch gears a little.
Okay, a lot!
On Monday, I blogged about being On My Own for the week while my husband is away on business. We are on Day 4/7 and so far so good. We have gone though a mega-size package of Boogie Wipes, countless boxes of Kleenex and OJ and watched too much television, but we are hanging tough!
On Tuesday, my friend posted this video (Soldiers Surprising Their Loved Ones: PART ONE) on her Facebook page and I haven’t been able to shake it from my mind ever since. As I watched it, tears rolled down my face because it put being apart and the challenges of doing it on my own into a whole new perspective.
The men and women that are serve our country deserve our thanks and our respect, but the family that they leave at home deserve that and a whole lot more in my mind, especially the children. They are so young and don’t understand the concept of war or death. They know Daddy’s hugs and the way he smells and he makes them feel protected.
Just look at these faces when they see their loved one return home. Safely. After months of asking “when’s Daddy coming home?” and wondering “is he okay?” and “when will I see him again?”; it’s pure joy, utter disbelief, delight and love.
I have NOTHING to complain about!

I was just complaining because my husband has been gone atleast 4 days a week for the last few weeks. Then a friend of mine put this on her facebook and I had the same realization. Those that serve our country and their families are amazing. I couldn't imagine. No more complaining from me.
Wow – this was my first time watching this… I cried the entire 5 minutes… I'm in the same boat.. no more complaining if hubby has to work late.
I absolutely LOVE this video, and bawled through it the first time I watched it. I need to see things like this to bring some perspective into how things in MY life are going.

I don't think I am brave enough to watch the video. But I agree with you it must be very hard to manage with such extended "business trips". For everyone.
Same here! Hubby also travels for work, but nothing compared to being deployed!
My dad is a retired Marine who served in the Gulf War (my three brothers were also Marines and one went to Iraq 3 times) when I was about 3. My sister was just telling me tonight about how I would call people on accident and if a man answered I would ask if it was my dad and ask questions about where he was and when he was coming home.
Growing up with him away so much was tough, but we got through it, like most military families do. From day one we know our parents dedication to country and the pride we feel for them helps with deployments. Thank you for sharing this.

I've seen this and yes, it's so touching. Beautifully said. Isn't is amazing how one small thought can put it all into perspective so clearly?
I can't even watch the videos as I have tears in my eyes just THINKING about it. You're right, we have so little to complain about….
Wow..thanks for that..now I'm here crying! Geez! Uh, that is really sweet! But I can't help but think while watching this that I'll never have this happy reunion with mom and dad. It breaks my heart. I guess its only human nature to put yourself in someone else's position.
