I can see the headline now:
(AND LARGE TOY)
DOWN DRAIN PIPE.
We are idiots!
We have been home over a month and I’m pretty sure he’s pulling one over on us now. So, three nights ago, on his birthday nevertheless, we stopped getting up with him and started to let him work it out. It was working great, until last night when I forgot to remove the latest distraction.
Meet the culprit:
Cute enough, right? But very dangerous! It turns out if this thing, a once thought of as the perfect birthday gift from Mommy & Daddy is within eyesight, Lucas won’t sleep. Lucas wants to play.
He was up from 1:15 – 1:45 whining and carrying on and I thought trying to go back to sleep, but when I finally went in to his room, he was sitting up in his crib with his “take me to Disneyland look” pointing at the house. I comforted him, explained that it was nighttime and that he could play with his new toy in the morning, to which he promptly rolled on to his tummy, which usually indicates he’s going to cooperate. I also removed the house from his room only to set the music off, which only ignited his desire to play with it. Stupid @#!%^ house!! A complete melt down ensues and it’s now almost 2:00 in the morning.
He was still whining at 2:15 and 2:30, upon which time I got him a bottle, cursed the world and thanked God it was at this point that Dad took over. I was so pissed!
Needless to say, we have made up (sort of), but are both sleep deprived today.
The best is yet to be.

Sounds like the house is being relocated on a more permanent basis. 🙂

Oh! It sounds like mommy needs to try to let Lucas "cry it out" for a few nights 😉

oh my god…it's total KDDIE CRACK (house)! DIsneyland did the SAME thing to me,,I'd get ALL Hopped Up the night B4 a DISNEYLAND TRIP,,…heart pounding,…..insomnia…..mind racing with anticipation…..Hmmm but maybe you could trick him into thinking your house is the happiest place on earth or you could use it as a bribing tool 🙂

The headline is hilarious!!!! I get you on that one! Yes, I agree with Nathalie, LMW needs to cry it out! I know how tough it is…
Good luck T!!! xoxo

That house looks like a fun toy. I think it would keep me up at night too, LOL.

I agree, that needs to be relocated out of the bedroom permanently…
My son climbed out of his crib the first time around 14 months – after a modification to the bed (i.e. turning the low side to the wall) we managed to avoid having to convert it to the toddler bed until he was closer to 20 months. Any temptation will ecourage the child to climb. The 20 month army crawl over the side rail was because mommy was picking out the next day's outfit, and he was in his crib.
As for the sleep, try giving him a bottle right before putting him down. I notice when J goes through growth spurts even now (28 months) he will wake up in the night looking for a glass of milk – which becomes a habit if we let it. To avoid it, we offer a glass of milk before bed. If he's hungry he'll drink it, if not – then he won't, but it avoids the nighttime wake up.
To break the cycle, when he won't drink the one offered before bed, it is brutal the first few nights, but stay with him to comfort, but not hold him. I slept many nights on J's floor to simply comfort him back to sleep without having to really get up. Being able to place my hand in his crib so he knew I was there, helped him settle back into sleep.

I'm happy to report that the house in question was removed from Lucas' room last night prior to sleepy time and we didn't hear a peep from him ALL NIGHT LONG! 🙂
Thanks for the advice, everyone, especially Ali.

I'm sorry, but this post made me laugh out loud. ALL kids go through this at some point, some worse than others. And I am so happy to learn I'm not alone! My firstborn was a horrible sleeper the first year of his life and still tries to "pull one over on us".
Hope you get a good night's sleep soon.

Oh my goodness Lucas! Yikes! That's awful! Hope you are both getting more sleep now and he gets back to sleeping through the night!

I am cracking up at this!! Once when my youngest was just a couple months old, I kept hearing music over the monitor. Finally I went into his room, and this stupid musical toy was setting off by itself in his closet! It's one that you have to physically touch in order to make work. Yeah right! The thing was seriously going off over and over. Fortunately, however, he didn't wake up. My husband then tried to convince me we have a ghost. Let me tell you, if I thought for a second that that were true, we'd be outta here faster than you can say Stupid @#!%^ house!!
