I didn’t want to lose my patience today.
I didn’t want to raise my voice or say no, bad dog or get down.
I didn’t want to scold or clean up messes.
I didn’t want to hear whimpering or the annoying squeak of a plush toy.
I didn’t want to be nipped at or scratched.
I didn’t want to raise my eye brows in shock when I discovered another characteristic I was unaware dog’s possessed or another chewed item… Baseboards? Garden hose? Metal leg of table? Really?
I didn’t want to have to dry my tears as I wondered if we had made the biggest mistake of our lives.
I wanted nothing but smiles and laughter and wagging tails.
I wanted everything to go smoothly.
I wanted everyone to be agreeable. Happy and content.
I didn’t want to become one of those people. You know the kind that show pictures of their latest pride and joy to people they barely know.
I didn’t want to admit that Cesar Millan might just know what he’s talking about. We now DVR The Dog Whisperer.
I didn’t want to be a frequent shopper card carrier at PetSmart, PetCo or Muttropolis.
I didn’t want to subscribe to another magazine. Hello, Dog Fancy!
I didn’t want to be the person that left a party early because I knew it was feeding time at home.
I didn’t want to fall in love, but I am.

Ahhh…it seems you are learning the ups and downs of dog ownership. When one of my dogs was a pup he chewed up more flip-flops and electric cords than I can count. He also ate through baseboards, sheet rock, our new couch, and prescription glasses.
But now that he is older he has stopped chewing so much and instead likes to steal food when the kids aren’t looking.
But he also likes to cuddle so we keep him around.
Good luck!

So, in other words, you were just waiting for this post? 🙂 Charlie is a handful, but will be worth it. Someday…
Luckily he hasn’t gone after shoes yet.
Jessica says
I was hoping this post wouldn’t come (for your sake).

Oh, that face! That sweet, innocent face!
I’m afraid, Tonya, very, very afraid.
Hang in there, friend. xoxo

Just you wait. It’s all wagging tails and that intoxicating puppy smell until you’re chasing your precious fur ball around the yard with your son’s lovey in his mouth.
Luckily potty training has been a snitch and Charlie Pasta LOVES his crate.

Puppies are a lot of work, but he will reward you with lots of love and devotion. And that is why I got an older dog from the Human Society. But he has his quirks, too and isn’t the perfect dog. He will chew things when he feels neglected or will potty in the house. so hang in there and keep up the good work. At least you have a kennel and that helps. Di and I put our dogs in timeout in the bathroom when they are bad.:-)

OMG baseboards…I thought Trixie (8 months) was the only one who did that.

Kelli and I have come to the agreement that Charlie Pasta is adorable.
Kelli doesn’t quite remember 3 years ago when we brought Holli home.
It IS worth it eventually…but I am a control freak and that puppy about did me in. So I totally get this!
BUT, I did it twice! So it must pay off.

There is no way one could get mad at him!

I’m not even a dog lover and I can’t help but love that cute little face! I know our time will come. Almost daily Eddie expresses how much he misses our cat (died a year ago), but now he wants a dog. Oh boy.
