I adore music and do just about everything better with it playing in the background.
My musical taste is very eclectic (read an old post I wrote called My ipod Has Schizophrenia to get a better understanding).
Lately, I have been channeling my inner teeny bopper with some super fun, upbeat tunes that I just had to share.
Some of you may be completely OVER these songs because they do get a lot of radio play, but I love them and as long as they keep putting a smile on my face and spring in my step, I’ll keep listening to them. Plus they make me feel young(er).
Incidentally, all of these put together make for a great workout playlist!
In no particular order, my Top 10 favorite songs this month:
1. What The Hell? – Avril Lavigne
Favorite line: All my life I’ve been good but now I’m thinking what the hell
2. Tonight Tonight & I Like It Like That (featuring New Boyz) – Hot Chelle Rae
Favorite line: I don’t know if I’ll make it but watch how good I’ll fake it
3. Who Says? – Selena Gomez & The Scene
Favorite lines: Who says you’re not star potential?
Who says you’re not presidential?
4. Good Life – OneRepublic
Favorite lines: Hopelessly I’m taking a mental picture of you now
‘Cause hopelessly the hope is we have so much to feel good about
5. Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People
It’s all about the whistling!
6. Mr. Know It All & What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger) – Kelly Clarkson
Favorite line: ‘Cause baby, you don’t know a thing about me
7. The Show Goes On – Lupe Fiasco
Favorite lines: Anybody ever wonder, when they would see the sun up
Just remember when you come up
The show goes on!
8. The Edge of Glory – Lady Gaga
This song will forever remind me of BlogHer ’11 and how I SHOULD HAVE participated in that awesome Flash Mob!
9. We Are Young (featuring Janelle Monae) – Fun.
Favorite lines: We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun
10. Faster – Matt Nathanson
Favorite lines: You taste like sunlight and strawberry bubble gum
You bite my lip, you spike my blood
You make my heart beat faster
I’ve been known to make (and mail) CDs before, so if you are interested (and I can remember how to do it), let me know!
This post was inspired by Stasha’s Monday Listicles, a linky right up my alley, because I LOVE lists!
Stasha says
I will take a mixed tape of that my dear. Super cool list T!
Tonya says
Awesome. DM me your address and I will send you a copy. 🙂
Bruna says
Great play list. I need to make myself one so I can use it to work out. The faster and the more dance partyish, the longer I can work out!
Tonya says
Music makes a workout fly!
Cookie's Mom says
I have a schizophrenic iPad too. LOVE all sorts of music and actually really love playing random songs that don’t seem to go together. Fun playlist!
Tonya says
When it comes to music, the more eclectic the better, I say.
Lisa says
Love the good life and Love the Edge of GLory. I am going to check out some others on your list to add my play list. Thanks.
Tonya says
My pleasure. Hope you like them!
Morgan B. says
I have a full playlist dedicated to gangster rap. I can’t help it. I’m a product of Southern California in the 90’s.
I’d write more, but I need to go download some Selena Gomez.
Tonya says
I love gansta rap too!
And for the record, I didn’t even know who Selena Gomez was until I Shazamed that song.
Alison@Mama Wants This says
I’m clearly out of the music loop as I only know like 3 of these songs! *hangs head in shame*
I will have to check them out, I think my running playlist, now outdated by 3 years, needs new life.
Tonya says
Three years old?! Yes, I’d say so, however, if it still works for you, keep it just the way it is. 🙂
Galit Breen says
Yay! LOVE this, girl, and these sons are so up my alley!
{I adore Edge of Glory for the same reasons that you do!}
Tonya says
Good!
No offense to your Facebook friends, but I didn’t think you’d be into Five Finger Death Punch or System of a Down.
I don’t do metal myself, but I respect it as a genre.
Sort of.
Jessica@Team Rasler says
Ooh, I need to look up some of these songs because I didn’t recognize them all! My husband has been coming home lately singing Pumped-Up Kicks, and it cracks us both up to hear our 3.5 year old singing along now.
Tonya says
Lucas really likes that song too.
Paula says
Very fun…channeling my inner teeny bopper runs more to Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and stone temple pilots – unfortunately those don’t make for a very good workout – lol
Tonya says
I like Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd too!
Mama and the City says
I just found myself being outdated in music taste LOL (Mariah Carey, early 90’s being played right now!)
Tonya says
I may have some MC on my iPod. 🙂
Stephanie says
I don’t think I recognize at least half of these. But that could be because I never pay attention to who sings what 😛 I’ll have to YouTube them and see if I know them!
Tonya says
Let me know what you think!
John says
Ok. I don’t think I know a single one of these.
I find that I can’t, typically, put music on in the background because I get interrupted at work, a lot, and if I had music on that I had to turn off, I make a frowny face.
Then, during workouts, I listen to Audiobooks because, otherwise, I’m going to be pretty grumpy because I fall just short of truly being able to lose myself in music (though I can lose myself in a good, well-read book), and then I obsess about the workout, and the fact that I really don’t want to be all sweaty.
That said, I think I might have to find some of these songs – just to know what the “phunky crowd” is listening to.
Tonya says
It’s funny, as much as I love music, I don’t have it on in the house very much. And if I do, it’s nursery rhymes. Go figure.
I do like to listen to books sometimes – do you have any recent favorites?
P.S. I like “phunky crowds”. 🙂
Eve says
Interesting list choice! Sadly, only recognize 2 of these songs. Ha!
Tonya says
Then it is time to make a visit to the iTunes store, my friend.
Jackie says
I can’t help but smile with this list, especially #9!
Tonya says
I love #9. Great song, great message.
jenn says
Love your soundtrack! 🙂
Tonya says
Thanks, I love getting in touch with my inner 16 year old.
Kimberly says
Love all of those songs! Clearly I’m trying to be 16 again too. 😉
Tonya says
Wasn’t 16 the best?!
Miss Marina Star says
Faster has been on an endless loop in my car for about three weeks. I love all things Matt Nathanson.
Also, I’m big on Avril’s new song. As far as I’m concerned these are all excellent choices!
Leah says
We have already or are pushing just about all these songs on your list at my music company. They are all fun songs indeed!
Jessica says
I have only heard one song on this list. Maybe I need to find my inner teeny bopper to help me with my workouts.
bestfoodies says
Good List…The Hubby has been working on computers all day and listening to The Gaga so I have had Edge of Glory in my head bouncing around all day long hahahaha….I have quite the musical variation on my ipod …type for every mood… love music!
Charlotte says
This post kind of makes me feel like a dinosaur. I know the Gaga (obvs) and Foster the People song… but I’m drawing a blank on the others. But the Avril song does sound familiar… I must have heard it somewhere.
Found you via Ali at Mama Wants This. Beautiful blog you have here and it’s nice to “meet” you 🙂
Audrey says
Great playlist, except Lady Gaga… can’t stand her
Greta @gfunkified says
Love these songs! I bet they would make a great workout mix….if only they would make me workout.

It’s really very complicated in this active life to listen news on TV,
so I just use internet for that reason, and take the most
up-to-date information.
free damp proof survey says
You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find
this topic to be really something that I
think I would never understand. It seems too complex and
extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of
it!
Joesph says
Undeniably believe that that you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to
be on the internet the easiest thing to understand of.
I say to you, I definitely get annoyed whilst folks think about
concerns that they just don’t realize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the
top as neatly as defined out the whole thing with no need side-effects ,
folks could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more.
Thanks
