Giddy with excitement over the gorgeous dress, the 25 foot train, the jewels, the beautiful cathedral, the cascading bouquet of flowers, the 3,500 guests, the pageantry, the glass carriage, the fairy tale.
A prince and a princess.
On July 29, 1981 along with an estimated 750 million other people, I sat glued to the television in an airport (probably on a layover some where returning to Karachi, Pakistan from being on summer holidays in the states) watching the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
I’m 38 years old now and just as giddy about happily ever afters and fairy tales.
If you need me today, I will be watching Kate Middleton marry Prince William.
I’m excited, but I won’t be setting my alarm for 3 AM, thanks to TiVo!

I have been trying to show my daughter all of the dresses and the "castle" this morning but she is more interested in Dora… maybe the next royal wedding.

I was too young to watch Diana's wedding, but I remember being glued to her funeral.
I happened to be awake this morning just in time to watch the end of the ceremony. JOlie woke up shortly after that & it prompted a morning viewing of my own wedding. During which, she cried huge tears b/c, "it's just so sweet Mommy!"

ok BACK UP…you grew up in Pakistan? How do I not know this about you?
I was only 2 when Charles and Diana got married and was never that into the monarch, but I can see the draw. If nothing else, it's history. And that is lovely to me 🙂

Just saw a bunch of pictures and videos online from the wedding. While it's beautiful and romantic and all that, I just am not into it all as most girls are. I will say that Kate's dress was gorgeous!!

I wasn't around yet, when Charles and Di got married. But I made a point to see this one (which involved staying up all night because I don't have tivo and knew that if I slept I would not wake up) and wake my daughter, who is seven, up at 4am to watch with me. It was worth it!

I will *never* forget that wedding. Never.
Diana was so young, so vibrant, so lovely.
And that dress? Oh, so beautiful.
Still breaks my heart that she's gone.
But, there's a glint in William's eye that is so familiar.

I remember that wedding so well….had just started dating my now-husband and getting ready to start my senior year of high school. There's just something about the tradition, the ceremony, and the royalty.
I loved watching the current wedding, but I didn't get up either! Love my Tivo!
