Today I received a very sweet gift from one of my oldest and dearest friends, Sophie; two Kimmidolls. I had never seen them before and they are just too adorable! Each come with a lovely message of love and friendship.
I am now the proud owner of Tomomi, ‘Friend’ who came with this message:
My spirit is positive and supportive.
In your relationships you reveal my spirit by supporting, encouraging and caring.
By always believing in the best in others and wishing them well, you show the spirit of a friend.
and Akemi, ‘Bright and Beautiful’:
My spirit shines and adorns.
Live my spirit. Let the beauty of your personality shine, to brighten and adorn the world. Celebrate your unique spirit and share its light and beauty with all.
Sophie and I met in The Gambia, West Africa in 1985 and together we caused several of the gray hairs atop our parents heads. We were partners in crime literally and figuratively and almost inseparable for almost three years. I miss Sophie as much today as I did when I moved away from The Gambia and wish that there weren’t so many miles between us (she and her family now live in New Caledonia). I haven’t seen her since 2000, when she and her then boyfriend, now husband met me in Paris for what to this day is still one of my most memorable weekends.
Sophie and I have a beautiful friendship despite the distance between us and I love her dearly. I know in my heart that I will see her again, meet her darling daughters and introduce her to you.
Friendship is such a beautiful gift to give and receive. Thank you, Sophie! xoxo
The best is yet to be.

Dear Little Lucas,
I’m very touched by the above. You’re Mommy is probably the best friend I have ever had and will ever have. There is something very special with your Mommy that makes her different to my eyes. She has helped me out in many occasions. Yes, it’s very true that we were partners in crime!!! However, we also knew how to behave ourselves 😉 I wouldn’t want your Mom having to explain to you what our crimes were!!!! I just want you to know that most of my best memories of my life in the Gambia (I was there for 18 years) are with your Mommy.
Yes the w.e. in Paris was truly magic! Luc also agrees with me that your Mom is a loving friend. He liked her straight away and has never seen me walk that long (because talking with Tonya) without me complaining! Your Mommy and I had 12 years to catch up on!!!!
As soon as I was aware of these dolls, I thought they would be the perfect gift for your Mommy. They are beautiful and carry lovely messages, exactly like your Mommy is/does. She is a precious Friend and I really can’t wait to see her again. I’m also very impatient to meet you and your Daddy! She is so proud of the two of you!
Take care little Lucas. Did I tell you that you are gorgeous and that I love looking at pictures of you?
Could you give Mommy a Big Teddy bear hug for me. Thank you!

Oh this is just too sweet for words! Its so important that you and I stay good at keeping in touch with long distance friends. Living overseas certainly showed us exactly how to do that. Thank goodness for emails and facebook, they really do make the world a smaller place.

My Dearest Lucas,
I have been wanting to update this since I met you! So yes, I did get to meet you : ) Your Mommy sent me a message on November 14th 2009 (on my birthday – best present ever) to tell me that you were coming to visit us, here in New Caledonia, in April 2010.
It was lovely meeting you and seeing your Mama as a Mommy! She's a WONDERFUL Mommy! You're are LOVELY little boy and I'm so happy that we got to meet you! The girls talk about you ALL THE TIME! They compare all the babies they see to you : ))) And so far, you're the one they prefer : )))
Lets hope that we get to see you again soon, little monkey!
Sending lots of love your way,
Sophie, Emma, Noemi and Luc xoxo
